About Animal BioScience Consultancy

Animal BioScience Consultancy

At Animal BioScience Consultancy, we apply only proven and published  scientific research to produce a product or overcome a production/performance issue that standard nutritional supplementation and feeding cannot achieve. We go much deeper than just the nutrients in the feed/supplements. We look at what is going on inside, starting in the gut with the microbes and then the chemicals, hormones, cytokines, and other metabolic factors produced and released inside the body. We investigate alternative, powerful nutritional compounds that can positively influence the internal workings of an animal. At Animal Bioscience Consultancy, we are far more than just skin deep.

At  Animal BioScience Consultancy, we investigate and explain how feed and different ingredients affect the body's function, the intricate link  between what's eaten and the health of the gut microbiome, metabolism,  immunity, endocrinology, physical and mental health.

We are much more than nutritionists

We are Animal Nutritional Physiologists!

Dr. Mark Barnett PhD

In  2003, after spending a lifetime working with large animals, especially  horses, a mature aged student undertook a life changing decision to enrol in an Animal Science degree at the University of New England, Australia. Seven years later this student emerged from the academic world of teachings with a hard earned Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) in Animal Nutritional Physiology. His name was Dr. Mark Barnett.

Dr. Barnett is a man with a curious mind. He always wanted to know what was going on inside the body when certain things were fed, when  environmental conditions changed, when diseases struck, or when stress  was high. What changed inside, why, and how did this affect the rest of  the animal, mentally and physically? He was always fascinated with the  idea that changing what we took into our body could change the way so  many things worked inside and outside of our bodies.

For  several years, Dr. Barnett worked in the animal nutrition world, first  as a lecturer of Animal and Equine Nutrition in the veternary school at  Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, then as a contracted consultant  for a nutrional advising company in Queensland, and finally as a self  employed nutritional consultant. He worked hard and achieved much in  these roles but he was always curious about what could be going on  inside the body, both good and bad.

Then  came the "age of the microbiome". The discovery that the microbes that  reside in the digestive tract of animals, humans included, were more than just casual residents. It was discovered that these tiny microbes  could influence not just how much feed was digested but the level and  types of hormones and internal chemicals produced, whether certain geans were switched on or off, the impact of dietary nutrients on the  physical health of the animals (metabolic diseases), and even the mood  and mental health of an animal. Add to this an increased understanding  of the roles that plant-based polyphenols play in the physiological health of humans and animals and Dr. Barnett's interest was piqued.

This is what Dr. Barnett loves learning about, dealing with, and helping  others overcome and enhance for their clients.
